Blue Jays vs Red Sox: Toronto eyes series win as Springer nears return

Blue Jays vs Red Sox continues its three-game series as the Toronto Blue Jays look to secure a series win over the visiting Boston Red Sox, with George Springer potentially set to return to the lineup.

The Blue Jays ended Boston’s three-game winning streak with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday in a strong pitching and defensive display.

Springer has been on the injured list with a broken left big toe, suffered after fouling off a pitch on April 11 against Minnesota. He has resumed hitting and running drills, and manager John Schneider said he could be activated from the injured list as early as Wednesday if all goes well.

Springer is expected to return as a designated hitter, likely stabilizing the leadoff spot. He acknowledged he will still feel some discomfort for a few weeks but remains confident in his swing timing.

“I know it’s going to be there, and it is what it is,” Springer said. “My swing was in a good place, not bad for not being out there for a while. So I’ll take it for sure.”

At the time of injury, Springer was batting .185 with two home runs and six RBIs, though he played a major role in Toronto’s strong 2025 season and postseason run.

Boston will start right-hander Brayan Bello, while Toronto is expected to counter with left-hander Eric Lauer. The Red Sox have struggled offensively in the series, failing to score after the fourth inning on Tuesday and being shut out for the third time this season.

Toronto could also welcome back right-hander Trey Yesavage, who recently returned from the injured list, as the team gradually regains key players.

Manager John Schneider said the return of injured players is helping the team regain rhythm and stability.
