Bo Lueders, guitarist and founding member of Harm’s Way, has died aged 38, with a statement from his band and podcast team prompting an outpouring of grief across the hardcore community.
The news was confirmed in a joint message shared by Harm’s Way and the HardLore Podcast, which Lueders co-hosted with Colin Young.
“It is with heavy, broken hearts that we share that our beloved Bo Lueders has passed away,” the statement read.
“He will be remembered for his unwavering empathy and compassion for his friends and family and his magnetic, inimitable presence on and off the stage.”
The band and podcast team also asked for privacy as they deal with what they described as an “extremely difficult time”.
A defining force in Harm’s Way
Lueders helped form Harm’s Way in Chicago in 2006 and remained a core part of the band’s identity for nearly two decades.
The group released five studio albums, most recently Common Suffering in 2023, and built a strong following within the global hardcore and metal scene.
Known for his intensity on stage and deep connection with fans, Lueders played a key role in shaping the band’s sound and presence.
Statement raises wider conversation
Alongside the announcement, the statement included a message encouraging those struggling with depression or thoughts of self-harm to seek support.
“For those struggling with depression or urges to self harm, help is always available. We’re not in this alone,” it read.
The inclusion of the message has resonated widely with fans, sparking conversations around mental health within the music community.
No cause of death has been publicly disclosed.
