ISLAMABAD: A fresh controversy has erupted in Pakistan’s boxing circles after a non-official body questioned the legitimacy of professional boxer Usman Wazeer’s record and titles, prompting a sharp rebuttal from the Pakistan Boxing Council (PBC), the country’s official governing authority for professional boxing.
In a statement, the PBC dismissed the claims, calling them “misleading” and accusing an amateur body of interfering in matters outside its jurisdiction.
“Jurisdiction in professional boxing rests with international sanctioning bodies and recognized registries,” the PBC said.
“Amateur bodies have no mandate to regulate or interfere in professional boxing, and their repeated involvement only causes unnecessary confusion.”
Usman Wazeer himself dismissed the allegations, terming them as “baseless boxing politics.”
The PBC reaffirmed that Usman Wazeer’s professional record and achievements remain legitimate and internationally recognized, stressing that “any attempt by non-recognized federations or amateur bodies to interfere in professional boxing is firmly rejected.”
The council described recent allegations against Wazeer as propaganda “designed to undermine his reputation and the growth of professional boxing in Pakistan.”
Allegations against Usman Wazeer
On Wednesday, Pro-Green Boxing Federation, a non-official body, issued a strongly worded statement branding Usman Wazeer a “manufactured champion.”
The group claimed Wazeer’s recent win in Bangkok on August 30, where he secured the OPBF Silver belt after knocking out 44-year-old journeyman Stevie Ongen Ferdinandus, was evidence of record-padding rather than genuine achievement.
“Stevie Ferdinandus is a 44-year-old journeyman with over 57 professional fights, most of which ended in defeat. Matching a 35-year-old fighter like Wazeer against an aging, worn-out opponent was never a fair contest — the result was already written,” the federation alleged.

The statement further questioned Wazeer’s undefeated record of 17 wins, including 12 knockouts, arguing that it came against “weak and carefully selected opponents.”
It dismissed the OPBF Silver belt as “a regional token, not a world title,” accusing promoters of exaggerating its prestige.
The PBC, meanwhile, stood firm in its defense of Wazeer, vowing continued support for what it called “Pakistan’s legitimate professional boxing champions” and urging fans and stakeholders not to be misled by “parallel entities.”
