Scottish-funded scholarships

ISLAMABAD: The British Council has announced “Scotland Pakistan Scholarships for Young Women and Girls” for the 2025–26 academic year.

The programme, funded by the Scottish government and administered by the British Council, offers financial support for bachelor’s and master’s/MPhil studies in HEC-recognised universities across Pakistan.

It aims to improve access to higher education for women, particularly those from rural and underprivileged backgrounds.

These scholarships are available in education, sustainable energy, food security and agriculture, health sciences, STEM, and climate-related disciplines. The scheme covers a two-year master’s/MPhil or four-year bachelor’s degree in these subject areas.

According to an impact evaluation report, the programme has led to higher enrolment and retention rates for women and improved career prospects.

Will Fulbright scholarships face the axe?

According to the British Council, many recipients have gone on to contribute to sectors including education, health, and agriculture.

“These scholarships reflect a shared commitment between Scotland and Pakistan to champion education, equality, and opportunity,” said British Council Deputy Director Maarya Rehman.

“Investing in women’s education is investing in a brighter, more inclusive future for us all.”

Applicants must be Pakistani nationals residing in Pakistan, hold confirmed admission to an HEC-recognised university, and meet the degree requirements for the listed fields. Women with disabilities, from rural areas, or minority groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The application deadline is August 31, 2025. Further details are available at http://bit.ly/4lVP6sR
