In the wake of controversial remarks made by US President Donald Trump regarding Iran, senior American politicians have come out strongly condemning him as “crazy” and “dangerous,” with some even demanding his removal from office.
Trump’s latest social media outburst, widely criticised as an immoral and reckless statement, has sparked a wave of criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. Democratic leaders, in particular, have voiced alarm over his rhetoric, urging Congress to take immediate action.
Senator Bernie Sanders described the president as “mentally unbalanced” and called for a congressional response, reiterating that Trump’s actions are posing a serious risk to national security. “At this point, Trump has become a danger, and it’s clear that Congress must act,” Sanders stated.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also weighed in, calling Trump’s behavior especially concerning in the lead-up to the Easter holiday. “While the nation is preparing to celebrate Easter, Trump continues to blabber like a restless lunatic on social media. His comments are deeply irresponsible,” Schumer said in a statement.
Adding to the growing backlash, former Trump ally Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said, “Trump has lost touch with reality. If anyone in his administration considers themselves Christian, they should step in and stop this madness.”
US Senator Chris Murphy voiced his concerns as well, stating that if he were a member of Trump’s cabinet, he would begin considering the use of the 25th Amendment, a constitutional provision that allows for the removal of a president deemed unfit for office.
The 25th Amendment, often a point of debate during times of political turmoil, provides a process by which the vice president and a majority of the cabinet can declare the president unfit for office, potentially leading to his removal.
As tensions continue to rise both domestically and internationally, the question of Trump’s fitness to serve remains at the forefront of political discourse. His inflammatory statements against Iran have only intensified calls for accountability, with many wondering if Congress will take the necessary steps to address what they describe as an escalating national security threat.
