Campbell, Hope, Jangoo smash centuries as West Indies post 405 against India

West Indies produced a stunning batting performance against India in the second ODI, posting 405-7 in their 50 overs and setting India a daunting 406-run target.

John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114) all struck centuries as West Indies posted their highest-ever ODI total in the second ODI in Guwahati.

It is only the sixth time in ODI cricket that three batters from the same team have scored centuries in an innings. West Indies’ total also surpassed their previous best of 389, scored against England at St George’s in 2019.

Campbell and Hope put on 110 runs from 79 balls for the second wicket before a huge third-wicket partnership of 182 between Hope and Jangoo set the platform for the record total.

Campbell struck five sixes in his rapid century and smashed 22 runs off one over from Prasidh Krishna.

India bowlers Prasidh Krishna and Naman Dhir picked up injuries, while paceman Auqib Nabi had a difficult ODI debut, conceding 84 runs — the fourth-most by an Indian bowler on ODI debut.

West Indies’ performance comes less than a week after reports that their players must take a 25% pay cut as part of wider cost-saving measures.

For India, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and another bowler claimed two wickets each.

West Indies scored 36 runs in the final five overs and finished with a run rate of 8.10.

India lead series 1-0

The match is the second of the three-match ODI series. India won the opening match by eight wickets in Thiruvananthapuram to take a 1-0 lead.

West Indies scored 295-7 in their 50 overs in the first ODI, with Justin Greaves scoring 101 and Campbell making 62.

Kuldeep Yadav was India’s leading bowler, taking four wickets for 40 runs in the series opener.

India chased down the target in 41.4 overs for the loss of two wickets, with Virat Kohli scoring an unbeaten 139 and captain Shubman Gill making 110.

Kohli also completed 15,000 ODI runs during the match and registered his 55th ODI century.
