ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) have agreed to move forward with the establishment of a Special Technology Zone (STZ) in Islamabad — a key step towards transforming the federal capital into a technopolis city.
At a meeting jointly chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and STZA Chairman Azfar Manzoor on Wednesday, it was decided that STZA will act as the regulator for the zone and issue licences to hi-tech companies, while the CDA will serve as the development agency responsible for infrastructure and implementation.

A joint working group will be formed to assess various proposals, evaluate financial and operational models, and prepare viable recommendations for submission to the federal government.
Officials briefed the meeting on the proposed master plan, which envisions a high-tech production zone and dedicated technology park.
The project aims to attract technology-driven enterprises and entrepreneurs, with potential incentives such as tax and duty rebates to be finalised following federal approval.
Randhawa said that establishing the Special Technology Zone is the authority’s priority in collaboration with STZA.
He said the initiative would help promote innovation, create employment in the technology sector, and position Islamabad as a regional hub for modern industries.
Randhawa reaffirmed the CDA’s commitment to utilise STZA’s technical expertise to ensure the success of the project, emphasising that a sustainable and financially viable model is being developed in line with international best practices.
Senior officials from both organisations also attended the meeting.
