WEB DESK: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Asim Munir, alongside Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, have concluded a pivotal three-day official visit to Iran.
The high-level delegation focused on de-escalating regional tensions and fostering long-term stability, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.
Diplomatic mediation and security synergy
The visit, which commenced on Wednesday, saw the Pakistani leadership engage in extensive deliberations with Iranian civil and military counterparts.
The ISPR noted that the discussions were centred on the “evolving regional security environment” and the necessity of collaborative measures to ensure enduring peace. Crucially, the military’s media wing highlighted that this visit was a core component of Pakistan’s “ongoing mediation efforts” aimed at lowering the temperature between Iran and the United States.
By positioning itself as a bridge-builder, Islamabad seeks to prevent further volatility in a region already grappling with complex geopolitical shifts.
A call for de-escalation and dialogue
During the sessions, Field Marshal Munir underscored the imperative for dialogue and de-escalation. He maintained that the peaceful resolution of outstanding issues through “sustained diplomatic engagements” remains the only viable path forward for the Middle East and South Asia.
The inclusion of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in the delegation further signaled a unified front between Pakistan’s military and civilian sectors, reinforcing a shared commitment to border security and regional harmony.
As the delegation returns to Islamabad, the focus shifts to whether these diplomatic overtures will yield a tangible cooling of hostilities in the broader regional theatre.
