ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmed has called for the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, asserting that he should be tried under article 6 due to the alleged failure to conduct transparent general elections on February 8.

During a Senate session in Islamabad on Tuesday, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed declared, “Legal proceedings should be initiated against the CEC under Article 6 of the constitution. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) received Rs50 billion from the national exchequer, yet it failed to conduct transparent polls.”

The senator demanded the return of the funds allocated for elections and urged for a case to be filed against CEC Raja. Additionally, he called for the establishment of an independent judicial commission at the Supreme Court level to investigate the matter of Form 45, which is crucial in the electoral process.

Accusing the ECP of committing treason, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed insisted that the electoral body should apologize to the nation. He condemned the elections as fraudulent, warning that they would result in a counterfeit government.

Furthermore, the senator criticized the authorities for suspending the social media platform “X,” stating that it caused economic and educational harm and infringed upon people’s rights. He demanded the restoration of all social media platforms without restrictions.
