Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi re-arrested

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President and former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in an alleged money laundering case before he was released from a camp jail on bail in another case.

The arrest comes a day after an anti-corruption court in Lahore granted bail to Elahi in an alleged illegal recruitment case in the Punjab Assembly.

Earlier,the FIA booked Elahi, his son Moonis Elahi and three others for their alleged involvement in money laundering through a frontman.

The FIA took Elahi into custody on Thursday morning from the premises of the jail and presented him in the sessions court Lahore.

Soon after the arrest, doctors of the Services Hospital Lahore carried out a medical examination of Elahi in the camp jail and declared him healthy.

The FIA arrested produced Elahi before the court of Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza Virk and sought a 14-day physical remand contending that they had ‘solid proof’ against him for his involvement in laundeing money through a frontman.

Meanwhile, Elahi has approached the Lahore High Court for protective bail and asked the court to provide him a list of cases filed against him.

According to media reports, Elahi has made Punjab’s caretaker government, the Anti-Corruption Establishment, the FIA, Punjab police chief Usman Anwar, the Lahore capital city police officer and the deputy inspector general respondents as in the bail plea.
