Chaz Bono, the actor and only son of music icon Cher, has married his longtime partner Shara Blue Mathes in a Hollywood ceremony that marked a full-circle moment decades in the making.
The couple tied the knot on March 8 at The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel in Los Angeles, according to reports. Close friends and family attended the event, including Bono’s mother Cher.
“I first met Shara more than 40 years ago when we were just teenagers,” Bono told the outlet. “I think it’s safe to say that not many grooms ultimately end up marrying the very first girl they ever kissed so many years later.”
Bono, 57, is the son of Cher and her late ex-husband Sonny Bono. He and Mathes first met as teenagers while studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute.
According to People, the ceremony followed a “Hollywood glam formal” theme. Bono wore a black-and-white tuxedo paired with a purple calla lily boutonniere, while Mathes opted for a long-sleeved lace bridal gown.
The couple reportedly shared a dramatic dip at the end of the aisle, which was lined with glowing red candles and moody floral arrangements, as Cher watched from the front row.

“She makes me feel complete knowing she will always be there beside me as partner, my best friend and the love of my life,” Bono said of Mathes. “No matter what life brings us, we will always be safer and stronger together. And we are home.”
Bono and Mathes later reconnected as adults and rekindled their relationship in January 2017.
The wedding comes during a turbulent period for Cher’s family. Her other son, Elijah Blue Allman, whom she shared with late Allman Brothers Band singer Gregg Allman, was arrested twice within three days over incidents in New Hampshire.
Allman was first arrested on February 27 following an alleged trespassing incident at St Paul’s School in New Hampshire. He faced charges including simple assault, criminal trespassing, criminal threatening and disorderly conduct.
He was released on personal recognisance bail but was arrested again on March 1 after a reported break-in at a home in Windham, New Hampshire. Authorities charged him with burglary, two counts of criminal mischief and breach of bail.
