Chevening scholarship open for Pakistani students

ISLAMABAD: The British High Commission has invited aspiring “Pakistani change-makers” to apply for the UK’s prestigious Chevening scholarships, which are now open for applications until October 7, 2025.

Chevening is the UK Government’s global scholarship programme. It supports individuals with strong leadership potential who want to bring positive change to their communities and country. Scholarships are open to mid-career professionals with at least two years of work experience after graduation.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott CMG OBE called on “exceptional future leaders” across Pakistan to seize the opportunity, describing the fully funded programme as a “launchpad” for individuals with the ambition and leadership potential to make a real difference in their communities.

The Chevening scholarship covers tuition fees, flights, visas and a monthly allowance for accommodation and living costs.

Candidates will live and study in the UK for a year, during which time they will develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.

“Chevening offers more than just a world-class education,” the British envoy said in a statement. “It provides the space to grow, the networks to connect globally, and the confidence to lead with purpose.”

She called upon Pakistani students that “if you have the leadership potential and the ambition to make a difference, I strongly encourage you to apply.”

As a global scholarship programme, Chevening supports mid-career professionals with at least two years of post-graduate work experience. The scholarship enables recipients to pursue a one-year master’s degree at any UK university, covering their expenses and offering stipend.

Applicants must demonstrate leadership ability, influence, and networking skills, backed by real-life examples from their personal or professional experience.

Chevening began in 1983 and it is one of the world’s most respected scholarship programmes.

Over 2,000 Pakistanis have previously benefited from the Chevening programme, joining a global alumni network of over 60,000 individuals from more than 160 countries. Many alumni now serve in leadership positions across government, academia, media, and civil society.
