China a model for poverty alleviation: Shehbaz

TINJIAN: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said China had set an example in the world by lifting 800 million people out of poverty, as he called for following the Chinese model in his address to the students and faculty members of the Tianjin University.

Shehbaz, who is in Tianjin to attend the SCO Council of Heads of State summit, also mentioned that “China has today become the world’s largest economy and the most powerful country”.

In his address, Shehbaz praised Chinese President Xi Jinping — the person behind the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

“Pakistan fully supports President Xi Jinping’s vision, which emphasizes the eradication of corruption and the prevention of poverty. This is also our policy.”

To elaborate his point, the prime minister said, “There is no allegation of corruption against my government. Pakistan can transform the lives of its people and achieve prosperity by learning from China’s experiences in industrial, agricultural, and scientific development.”

About Pakistan-China friendship, he said, “It withstands owing to commitment and clear vision in our minds; together to find a shared destiny.”

SHEHBAZ MEETS ERDOGAN

Separately, the prime minister held a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, where the two leaders exchanged views on key regional and international developments.

In this connection, they expressed grave concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza and reaffirmed their shared commitment to using international platforms to advocate for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and to condemn the ongoing Israeli aggression and genocidal policies.
