China rejects claims of military aid to Iran as ‘purely fabricated’

WEB DESK: China has formally dismissed allegations that it is providing military support to Iran, describing recent media reports on the matter as “purely fabricated”.

The denial comes amid heightened international scrutiny over Tehran’s regional activities and its expanding strategic partnerships, according to Dawn News.

Beijing asserts strict export controls

The Chinese Foreign Ministry clarified its stance via a statement on X (formerly Twitter), emphasising that the nation maintains a rigorous framework for the sale of arms and defence technology. A spokesperson for the ministry noted that Beijing “always acts prudently and responsibly” regarding the export of military products.

According to the statement, China exercises strict oversight in accordance with its domestic laws and regulations, as well as its “due international obligations”.

This response seeks to distance Beijing from claims that it is bypassing global sanctions or contributing to the escalation of conflict through the provision of hardware or technical expertise to the Iranian regime.

Balancing strategic ties and global obligations

The denial underscores the delicate balancing act China performs in the Middle East. While Beijing and Tehran signed a 25-year strategic cooperation agreement in 2021, China remains keen to project itself as a responsible global power and a neutral mediator in the region’s various disputes.

Critics and Western intelligence agencies have frequently raised concerns over the potential “dual-use” nature of Chinese technology entering Iran.

However, Beijing continues to insist that its trade relationships are strictly civilian in nature and fully compliant with international protocols.

By labelling the latest reports as fabrications, the Foreign Ministry has signalled that it will not tolerate what it perceives as Western attempts to malign its diplomatic and commercial conduct.
