KARACHI: Violent confrontations erupted outside the US consulate on MT Khan Road in Karachi on Sunday, leaving at least five people injured, officials said. The clashes occurred as protesters demonstrated against US and Israeli strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Demonstrators reportedly attempted to storm the consulate, throwing stones at security personnel. In response, police deployed heavy shelling to disperse the crowd. Rescue teams confirmed that five individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities, including local police and the Rangers, have bolstered security in the area to prevent further unrest and protect public safety.

The protest also caused major traffic disruptions. Roads from Sultanabad to Mai Kolachi were closed, creating significant congestion. Karachi traffic police announced alternate routes: vehicles from Jinnah Bridge were diverted to II Chundrigar Road, traffic from Boat Basin was redirected at Mai Kolachi Phatak, and vehicles from PIDC were turned back.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar requested a full report from the Additional IG Karachi regarding the incident. He emphasized that vigilantism will not be tolerated and instructed authorities to enhance security at sensitive sites across the province.
