GUJRAT: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz addressed a large gathering here today at the University of Gujrat, detailing the rapid development taking place across the province and highlighting the positive impact it has had on the future of Punjab’s youth.
During her speech, she also took the opportunity to criticise the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), particularly the ongoing unrest and road blockages that she claims are harming the people and economy of the province.
“We are not just developing Punjab, we are propelling it forward,” said Maryam Nawaz, reiterating the restoration of the province’s lost splendor. She pointed to several initiatives, including the distribution of laptops and scholarships to students, as evidence of the government’s commitment to empowering the youth of Punjab. “This is not just a ceremony; it is a celebration of education and opportunity for every son and daughter of Punjab,” she added.
CM Maryam praised the talent and potential of Punjab’s youth, stating that the province was laying the groundwork for a bright future. “The future of every child in Punjab is bright,” she said, underscoring the government’s efforts to create an environment conducive to progress and success.
However, her speech quickly turned to a sharp criticism of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where she claimed that violence and instability were being instilled in the minds of young people. “While Punjab is full of talented youth, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is descending into chaos,” she remarked, condemning the ongoing turmoil and road closures in the province. “Roads are blocked, businesses are destroyed, and lives are being lost due to these senseless acts. Just yesterday, ten patients died in ambulances because of the road closures,” Maryam Nawaz revealed.
In a more pointed remark, she censured the leadership in KP for not recognising the importance of education and progress. “Unfortunately, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, children are being taught to block roads instead of being educated. They do not realize how essential education is in today’s world,” she said, contrasting this with the educational reforms being implemented in Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz also addressed accusations made against her family, particularly concerning her mother’s illness. “My mother’s illness was lied about and ridiculed. Political differences should never turn into personal enmity,” she stated, defending her family against political adversaries who had politicized her mother’s health condition.
As for the ongoing political landscape, she noted that accountability of power lies not just with the people but with Allah. “We did not come to power to serve ourselves, but to serve the people. Our account will be held by Allah, not just by the people,” Maryam Nawaz remarked.
Turning her attention to the controversial issue of the Imran Khan’s room facilities, she said, “We did not speak about removing the air conditioning from the room of the PTI founder. Our focus is on the well-being of our own people, not political vendettas,” she said, referencing recent debates about prison conditions.
In closing, Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her commitment to the people of Punjab, offering all her resources at their service. “All my resources are at your feet. We will continue to work for your future, and we will not rest until Punjab reaches its fullest potential,” she concluded.
