CM Murad Ali Shah and Rana Ansar to hold talks for Sindh’s interim setup

KARACHI: A consultation meeting has been scheduled on Saturday morning for the establishment of an interim government in the province of Sindh.

According to sources, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah has reached out to opposition leader Rana Ansar for a consultation session at the CM house.

It is pertinent to note that both the CM and the opposition leader would propose three candidates each for the role of interim CM Sindh, as reported by the sources.

Meanwhile, the sources also said that the name of former Supreme Court Justice (R) Maqbool Baqir was leading the list of potential candidates for the position of caretaker chief minister in Sindh. Furthermore, the roster also included the former Chief Secretary Sindh Mumtaz Ali Shah, former Federal Secretary Younis Dhaga, and Shoaib Siddiqui, for the interim CM.

Governor dissolves Sindh Assembly

Earlier on Friday, Governor Kamran Tessori on Friday dissolved the Sindh Assembly on the advice of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who earlier presented him a summary to dissolve the provincial assembly.

The Sindh Assembly, which consisted of 168 members, has completed its five-year term from 2018 to 2023.

The assembly was dominated by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which holds 99 seats and forms the provincial government. The main opposition parties are the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which has 30 seats, and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P), which has 21 seats.

The remaining seats are shared by the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), and some independent candidates.

The Sindh Assembly is responsible for making laws and policies for the province, as well as overseeing the performance of the provincial government.
