WEB DESK: The Counter Narcotics Force (CNF) Punjab has dismantled an organised drug trafficking network, seizing a massive cache of narcotics worth an estimated Rs78 million in two separate intelligence-based operations.
According to CNF Punjab officials, a total of 475 kilograms of illicit contraband was recovered during targeted raids conducted near the Lal Suhanra National Park in Bahawalpur and at Shakir Morr in Vehari.
The seized substances included 382 kilograms of hashish, 92 kilograms of opium, and one kilogram of methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘ice’.
Twin raids near Bahawalpur and Vehari
Detailing the operations, a senior CNF official stated that teams were deployed to the specified locations following precise intelligence intelligence regarding the movement of large consignments. The contraband was reportedly being transported to serve as a supply line for local and inter-provincial distribution networks.
The first raid was strategically executed near the outer perimeter of the Lal Suhanra National Park, a key transit route, whilst the second operation successfully intercepted a vehicle at Shakir Morr, Vehari, preventing the narcotics from reaching urban centres.
Key suspects apprehended
Two suspects, including a woman, were arrested on the spot during the operations. Authorities stated that the individual roles of the accused within the trafficking network are being actively investigated.
Cases have been registered under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the upstream suppliers and downstream facilitators of the network. Officials added that security checkpoints have been further tightened across the province to curb the flow of synthetic and traditional drugs.
