Coalmine explosion in Harnai leaves 18 people trapped

HARNAI: At least 18 people find themselves trapped when an underground explosion rocked a coal mine in Harnai, a small mining town nestled within the province of Balochistan during the early hours of Wednesday.
According to sources, a segment of the Jalat Khan Coal Company’s mine collapsed in the aftermath of the explosion, leaving ten miners trapped underground.

A rescue operation was immediately mobilised to rescue the entrapped miners. Eight rescuers entered the tunnels to rescue the miners.
Due to the explosion, several parts of the mines collapsed. One such collapse trapped the eight people sent to rescue the miners.
According to reports, efforts are underway to now rescue all 18 people trapped underground.
The cause of the underground explosion is attributed to a buildup of underground gas.
Update
Rescue operation is still underway.
During the operation, bodies of four miners were recovered. Meanwhile, rescue workers managed to pull out seven miners successfully from the collapsed mine.
