WEB DESK: Coco Gauff has added another title to her career after defeating Jessica Pegula in the final of the Cincinnati Open.

The World No. 4 joined select company with a commanding 6-2, 6-4 victory over Pegula in Sunday’s final.

Speaking to reporters after the match, the 22-year-old stopped short of suggesting that her Cincinnati triumph would lead to another US Open title. However, she said the confidence gained from her run would serve her well in New York.

“I think with each match, I was feeling more and more confident in trusting the work that I put in and the practice,” Gauff said.

“Knowing that I can figure out these matches, and it’s going to be tough in New York, but just knowing the quality wins that I had this week, knowing that I’m able to figure it out even if I’m not playing my best, but also knowing that I can play that great tennis that I felt like I was playing this week.”

Pegula, meanwhile, praised Gauff’s resilience and consistency in the final.

In her runner-up speech, she said, “I wanna say congrats to Coco and her team. Gosh, you were like a backboard today. It was not fun to play against.”

“I didn’t even think I played bad,” Pegula added jokingly. “We know each other so well.”
