WEB DESK: Cold and dry weather is predicted to maintain its hold over most of the country on Monday, according to latest forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The northern regions are bracing for particularly severe nighttime temperatures.

Going region by region, the PMD said that Islamabad and its surrounding areas remained chilly and dry throughout the day, reflecting the broader national trend.

In Punjab, the cold persisted across most districts, with Murree, Galiyat and nearby hilly regions experiencing biting conditions that intensified after sundown.

In Punjab, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Jhelum, Sahiwal, Multan, Khanewal, Layyah and Kot Addu are expected to be blanketed by smog especially in the morning and evening hours, while patches of fog formed in some areas overnight.

Sindh will see predominantly dry weather, though temperatures might dip noticeably after nightfall.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, residents should brace for cold and dry conditions across the province, with the hill stations turning sharply colder after dark. Smog and fog will also affect parts of Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera and Dera Ismail Khan, reducing visibility in the late hours.

Balochistan will remain cold and dry as well, with the northern districts experiencing harsher nighttime cold.

Further up north, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will see cold, partly cloudy skies, and freezing conditions that are predicted to intensify through the night, adding to the seasonal grip tightening across the region.
