Cold, foggy weather to grip much of country on Monday

WEB DESK: Cold and partly cloudy weather is expected to prevail across most parts of the country on Monday, with very cold conditions likely in hilly areas during the morning and night hours. Rain is forecast at a few locations in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir and north-west Balochistan, while light snowfall is expected in mountainous regions.

Smog and fog are likely to affect plain areas of Punjab, upper Sindh and KP during morning and night hours, with heavy fog expected at a few places, potentially disrupting travel.

Going region by region, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that the federal capital, Islamabad and its surrounding areas are expected to experience cold and partly cloudy conditions.

Most districts of Punjab will remain cold and partly cloudy. Light rain is expected in Murree, Galiyat and nearby areas. Moderate to heavy smog or fog is likely in several districts, including Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhelum, Sahiwal, Multan, Khanewal, Khanpur, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.

Weather will remain dry across most of Sindh, with cold conditions during morning and night hours. Fog is expected in Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Larkana, Mohenjodaro and adjoining areas.

Cold and partly cloudy weather is expected in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Partly cloudy conditions with rain and light snowfall over the mountains are likely at a few places in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kurram and Khyber. Fog is expected in Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera and Dera Ismail Khan during morning and night hours.

In Balochistan, most districts will experience cold and partly cloudy weather, with extremely cold conditions in northern areas during morning and night. Light rain and snowfall are expected at a few places in Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Pishin, Quetta and surrounding areas.

Cold and partly cloudy weather is forecast in Kashmir, with rain at a few places and light snowfall over mountainous areas. Likewise, cold and partly cloudy weather is also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, with the possibility of rain and light snowfall on the mountains at a few places, the PMD said.
