Communication goes down in Gwadar due to intense rainfall

GWADAR: Intense rainfall severed crucial connections and communication lines in numerous parts of Gwadar, the city’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aurangzeb Badini announced in early hours f Wednesday.

“We find ourselves cut off from various regions of Gwadar due to the relentless rains,” the deputy commissioner said.

According to the DC, all administrative departments in the city and surrounding regions were alerted to the situation. Machinery and equipment was deployed to reduce the flooding by draining excess water from the affected areas.

The situation remained grim for the affected residents despite the authorities deployed on ground trying to address the growing needs of the affectees.

“Should the need arise to relocate citizens to safer locations, we stand prepared,” the deputy commissioner assured.

According to the DC, efforts are underway in reinstating the severed connections despite the extreme weather. “We are actively striving to re-establish disrupted connections”, he said.

Authorities are also trying to gauge the magnitude of damage. “Presently, we cannot quantify the damage inflicted upon residential structures,” Badini admitted.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Makran Division reported late on Tuesday that several houses in Gwadar collapsed due to the heavy rainfall.

He said that almost 40 people were rescued and relocated to safer regions. Tents, food, and medical supplies were provided to the displaced residents.
