WEB DESK: Pakistan has recorded an improvement in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2025, reaching a score of 28, up one point from 2024.

The country now holds the 136th position globally, reflecting gradual but consistent progress in tackling corruption over the past four years.

Governance reforms drive improvement across key sectors

Transparency International’s report attributes Pakistan’s improved score to sustained efforts in good governance and institutional reforms. Significant gains were recorded in reducing administrative corruption, strengthening accountability in legislative bodies, and curbing judicial corruption. Key indicators, including bureaucratic inefficiency and judicial misconduct, showed a five-point improvement compared to the previous year.

The 2025 report also expanded its survey to include two additional countries, broadening the scope of the global ranking. Analysts note that since 2021, the perception of corruption in Pakistan has declined significantly, with the country advancing four positions in the global rankings over the past four years. Transparency International highlighted that coordinated and concrete measures taken by Pakistan in both the public sector and governance frameworks were central to this progress, reflecting the government’s commitment to transparency, institutional accountability, and anti-corruption initiatives.

The report shows that while challenges remain, Pakistan’s steady upward trend in the CPI demonstrates that systematic reforms can yield tangible improvements in public perception and institutional integrity.
