Backlash over Kanye West’s planned appearance at Wireless Festival is intensifying, with growing calls for authorities to block the rapper from entering the UK.
The US artist, also known as Ye, is set to headline all three days of the London festival in July. But mounting criticism, political pressure and sponsor withdrawals have raised fresh doubts over whether he will perform.
Calls grow for UK entry ban
Senior UK politicians have spoken out against West’s booking, citing his past antisemitic remarks.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said it was “deeply concerning” that West had been selected to headline the event, stressing that antisemitism “must be confronted firmly wherever it appears”.
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has urged authorities to deny West entry to the UK, calling the situation “extremely serious”.
However, the Home Office has not yet received a visa application from the artist.
Sponsors pull out amid backlash
The controversy has already had an impact on the festival, with major brands stepping away.

Pepsi has withdrawn as the main sponsor of Wireless Festival, while drinks company Diageo has also pulled its support, saying it will not be involved “as it stands”.
The festival, previously promoted as “Pepsi presents Wireless”, appeared to remove partner details from its website following the backlash.
Why the controversy is resurfacing
West has faced widespread criticism in recent years over antisemitic comments and actions.

He issued an apology earlier this year, including in a full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal, saying he was “deeply mortified” and had “lost touch with reality” during periods linked to bipolar disorder.
Despite that, his past remarks continue to draw scrutiny, particularly as he prepares for a major return to the UK stage.
What happens next
With the festival still months away, uncertainty remains over whether West will ultimately perform.
Further sponsor withdrawals or increased political pressure could force organisers to reconsider, while calls for a ban may intensify.
For now, the question remains open: will Kanye West be allowed to take the stage at Wireless Festival?
