Pakistan is bracing for a significant increase in petroleum product prices, with petrol potentially reaching 100 PKR per litre in the coming days. According to reports from leading national newspapers, the federal government has decided to pass the rising costs of crude oil in the global market onto consumers.
Sources indicate that the current domestic petrol price is roughly 100 PKR per litre below its import-adjusted cost, while diesel is over 200 PKR per litre underpriced. To bridge this gap, authorities are expected to announce a major upward adjustment, which will put additional pressure on households already grappling with inflation. The new rates will come into effect after an official government notification.
The steep price rise follows heightened tensions in the Middle East, which have driven crude oil costs higher. Over the past month alone, the price of petroleum products in Pakistan has surged sharply. Petrol has increased by 63 PKR per litre, reaching 321.17 PKR from 258.17 PKR on February 28, 2026. High-speed diesel has risen by 60.16 PKR per litre, climbing to 335.86 PKR from 275.70 PKR over the same period.
If implemented, the price adjustments will mark one of the largest month-on-month increases in Pakistan’s recent history, further intensifying the burden of rising living costs on ordinary citizens. Consumers are being advised to prepare for higher fuel expenses as the government finalises the official announcement.
