RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has rejected a plea by former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan seeking a medical examination by his personal physicians.

The application was heard by ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah. Khan’s counsel Faisal Malik appeared before the court, while Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah represented the prosecution.

Opposing the plea, the special prosecutor argued that Imran Khan is an under-trial accused in the GHQ attack case and not a convicted prisoner.

He further contended that the Pakistan Prison Rules do not contain any provision allowing treatment by private doctors.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the request seeking access for Khan’s personal physicians.

The development comes amid concerns over Khan’s health.

According to a latest report, Khan has been diagnosed with a blockage in a vein of his right eye, a condition that can affect vision if not treated promptly.

The report has previously recommended detailed medical evaluation and monitoring, citing the need for specialised care.

Separately, the Supreme Court has fixed 13 different cases involving the PTI founder for hearing.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal will take up the cases on February 9.

The cases include the Punjab government’s appeals against Khan’s bail, as well as an appeal against the bail granted to Bushra Bibi.

The court will also hear Khan’s appeal against a criminal complaint filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Hearings have also been scheduled in cases related to the official secret and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references.

An appeal by the NAB against Khan’s bail in the Al-Qadir Trust case has been fixed for hearing.

The court will also take up appeals against the acquittal of Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case.

In addition, the government’s appeals against Khan’s bail in the May 9 Lahore cases have been scheduled.

Appeals filed by Khan against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a defamation case are also set to be heard.

The registrar’s office has issued notices to all relevant parties and their counsel.
