ISLAMABAD: Authorities in the federal capital have intensified operations against vehicles lacking M-Tags, with enforcement continuing at multiple checkpoints across the city following the expiry of the registration deadline.

Officials said M-Tag readers are fully operational at key entry and exit points to identify vehicles without valid tags. Vehicles found without M-Tags are being stopped as part of the ongoing crackdown, according to the Director General Excise.

To facilitate motorists, M-Tag installation is underway at 17 designated booth locations across Islamabad. A total of 166,888 vehicles have been issued M-Tags so far, while 3,130 vehicles were registered in the last 24 hours alone, officials confirmed.

DG Excise Bilal Azam stated that 24/7 services are being provided at the M-Tag centers located at 26 Number Chungi and 18 Mile, while additional counters at Kachnar Park and F-9 Park are operating until midnight to ease public inconvenience.

Authorities have urged citizens to obtain M-Tags at the earliest to avoid fines or legal action, warning that no exemptions will be granted. The operation is being carried out in coordination with the Safe City Authority, traffic police, and district administration to ensure smooth enforcement.

The M-Tag system was introduced to modernize traffic management, improve toll collection, and reduce congestion at toll plazas. Officials said the registration process is straightforward, requiring only a vehicle registration document and the owner’s CNIC, with tags issued immediately upon verification.

Authorities said that timely compliance will help streamline traffic flow and improve overall road safety in the capital.
