CSS 2024 results announced, only 2.5pc candidates pass

ISLAMABAD:  The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) on Monday announced the results of the CSS 2024 written examination, with only 2.53 per cent of candidates managing to pass.

According to the FPSC, 15,602 candidates appeared in the competitive exam, but only 395 cleared the written portion. Of those who passed, 238 were men and 157 women.

The pass percentage this year fell slightly compared to 2023, when it stood at 3 per cent.

Unlike previous years — when exams are held in February and results announced by October – the commission announced the result after a delay of almost six months. This highlights concerns about the increasing challenges facing candidates attempting to join Pakistan’s civil service.

Explaining the delay, the FPSC had said that the results were delayed due to an increased workload. The commission had to conduct and finalise the Special CSS 2023 exam alongside preparing for the regular CSS 2024 exams, leading to additional pressure on the system.

The delay triggered frustration among candidates, especially because FPSC had already begun the CSS 2025 process, holding exams from February 15 to 23 across 80 centres in 19 cities, even before announcing the 2024 results.

Some candidates, worried about uncertainty over their CSS 2024 results, were compelled to sit for the 2025 examination as well.

A petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking to postpone the CSS 2025 exams until the 2024 results were declared. However, the court dismissed the plea, and the exams proceeded as scheduled.

FPSC sources revealed that more than 25,000 aspirants had applied for CSS 2025, but only around 15,000 appeared in the written exams. Lahore recorded the highest number of participants.
