KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two suspected militants affiliated with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) during an operation in Karachi, alleging that the pair were involved in gathering intelligence on sensitive installations and planning attacks against law enforcement agencies.
According to CTD’s SSP Irfan Bahadur, the suspects were taken into custody during a targeted operation, while authorities recovered four kilogrammes of explosives, detonators and ball bearings from their possession.
Suspects allegedly trained at BLA camp
The CTD claimed that the arrested men had allegedly received reconnaissance and communications training at a BLA camp. Officials alleged that the suspects had been residing in Karachi and were transmitting information about sensitive installations to the banned outfit.
The department further alleged that the suspects were working to establish a terrorist network aimed at targeting law enforcement agencies.
Bahadur also said cases had been registered against the suspects at a CTD police station under relevant laws. He added that investigations were under way to determine the suspects’ alleged network and activities, while teams had been formed to trace and arrest their purported accomplices.
