WEB DESK: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted a successful operation in the Chaman area near the Afghan border after receiving secret intelligence, a department spokesperson said on Thursday.
During the raid, officials recovered six anti-tank improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The explosives were safely neutralised in the Roghani area, the spokesperson added.
The CTD further revealed that weapons were being smuggled from a nearby Afghan border village into Pakistan, and the operation prevented their potential use in criminal or terrorist activities.
Authorities emphasised that such proactive intelligence-led actions are part of ongoing efforts to secure border regions and prevent cross-border smuggling of arms and explosives.
Earlier this week, CTD Punjab arrested 12 terrorists linked to India’s RAW in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur, seizing IEDs, detonators, weapons, cash, and other materials, thwarting a major attack. The operatives, part of the “Fitna al-Hindustan” group, possessed photos, videos, and location data of sensitive sites, government institutions, a madrasa, and a local fair, indicating plans to spread fear and religious hatred. Arrests were aided by a Facebook ID operated by RAW from India. The CTD confirmed the group was heavily funded by RAW. Investigations are ongoing, with cases registered against all suspects.
