WEB DESK: Six militants were killed during a operation carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Lower Dir on Tuesday, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials said.
According to officials, the intelligence-based operation was launched after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area. Security personnel surrounded the suspected hideout, leading to an exchange of fire between the militants and law enforcement agencies.
The militants were reportedly involved in multiple acts of terrorism in the region and had been under surveillance for their alleged involvement in militant activities.
Weapons recovered, search operation continues
During the operation, security forces also recovered six Kalashnikov rifles and three hand grenades from the possession of the militants. The weapons were taken into custody for further investigation.
Officials added that some militants managed to flee during the exchange of fire. A search and clearance operation was continuing in nearby areas to trace and apprehend the escaping suspects.
Praise for law enforcement agencies
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the police for a successful intelligence-based operation in Lower Dir, in which six terrorists were killed.
In a statement, the interior minister commended the professionalism and operational capability of the CTD and police personnel involved in the action. He said the security forces demonstrated high standards of training and coordination in neutralising the threat posed by militants.
Naqvi noted that the operation reflected the continued commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintaining peace and stability in the region, adding that such actions help disrupt the plans of those seeking to destabilise the country.
