WEB DESK: Spain defender Marc Cucurella has fulfilled his unusual FIFA World Cup promise by getting a tattoo of national team coach Luis de la Fuente’s face after La Roja lifted the trophy.
The 28-year-old had pledged to ink his coach’s portrait on his body if Spain won the World Cup. Following Spain’s victory over Argentina in the final, De la Fuente jokingly reminded Cucurella that he expected him to keep his word.
On Tuesday, the defender made good on his promise, getting a tattoo on his left arm showing De la Fuente holding the World Cup trophy.
“Promise fulfilled,” Cucurella wrote on Instagram while sharing videos of the tattoo session.
Cucurella, who carried his wife’s pyjama top as a lucky charm throughout the tournament, featured in all eight matches for Spain and played a key role in the team’s defensive success, helping them record seven clean sheets.
