WEB DESK: In the wake of the destructive Ditwah cyclone that struck Sri Lanka, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan is continuing to provide extensive relief operations to assist affected communities. The Sri Lankan government had appealed for international aid following the storm, which caused widespread damage and left many people missing or displaced.
Under special instructions from the Prime Minister, a dedicated Pakistani Army team was dispatched to the affected regions to carry out rescue and relief operations. The team is actively involved in providing essential supplies, searching for missing persons, and recovering the bodies of those who lost their lives in the disaster. Efforts are also focused on remote hilly areas, where specialized search and rescue units continue to work tirelessly.
The NDMA is making use of available space on commercial flights to send additional relief materials to Sri Lanka, ensuring timely delivery of aid. A team participating in relief efforts was also flown in aboard the Pakistan Air Force’s C-130 aircraft. In addition, the NDMA has dispatched 200 tons of essential supplies by sea under the Prime Minister’s directives, with the Pakistan Navy’s ships and helicopters assisting in ongoing humanitarian operations.
The NDMA stressed all possible measures are being taken to support the cyclone victims and that relief efforts will continue until the affected communities are stabilized. Pakistan remains committed to providing aid not only domestically but also to neighboring countries affected by natural disasters, demonstrating its ongoing readiness to respond to emergencies at home and abroad.
Officials stated that the relief operation represents a coordinated effort by Pakistan’s armed forces, civil agencies, and international partners to provide urgent assistance to those in need, highlighting the country’s dedication to humanitarian support in times of crisis.
