BUCHAREST: Dan Stoenescu, the newly appointed Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, on Tuesday took oath of allegiance to the Romanian state before President Nicușor Dan.

In his remarks, Stoenescu reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the rights and interests of Romania and its citizens at the international level.

“By taking this oath, I fulfill my duty to serve with honour, loyalty, and responsibility the values that ensure our nation is respected and appreciated in Europe and worldwide,” he said.

The ceremony marked the official beginning of his diplomatic mission, which focuses on strengthening bilateral ties between Romania and Pakistan.

According to the Romanian embassy in Pakistan, previously, Dan Stoenescu was the Head of the European Union Delegation in Syria (2021-2024) and ambassador of Romania in Tunisia (2017-2021).

Starting from 2007, in addition to several roles within the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and Diaspora departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was Second Secretary at the Romanian Embassy in the Lebanese Republic, First Secretary at the Romanian Embassy in the Kingdom of Spain and held the position of Minister-delegate for Romanians Abroad (2015-2016) in the government of Romania.

He received a BA in International Studies from Austin College, Sherman, Texas, in 2003, an MA in Globalization and Development from the University of Warwick in the UK in 2005, and a postgraduate diploma in Forced Migration and Refugee Studies from the American University in Cairo in 2006.

He earned his PhD in political science from the University of Bucharest in 2009 with a thesis on “Modern Arab Nationalism and Islamic Identity after 1987”.

Dan Stoenescu has published several scientific articles on international relations and political science.

He is fluent in Spanish, French, Italian, English, Portuguese and has some knowledge of Arabic and Urdu.
