Actor Daniel Radcliffe and Olympic gold medallist Alysa Liu had fans saying the same thing after their backstage meeting on TODAY: it was nearly impossible to tell who was more excited.
Both stars appeared on the morning show on March 2, where cameras captured their first meeting behind the scenes. The brief exchange showed the pair greeting each other warmly and posing together, with Radcliffe admiring Liu’s newly won gold medal.
The mutual fangirling quickly caught attention online, with viewers praising the genuine energy between the two.
The viral moment comes amid a surge of attention around Liu, whose confident, self directed approach to competition at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics has drawn widespread praise from fans.
Radcliffe, who became a household name after playing the lead role in the Harry Potter film series, currently stars opposite Tracy Morgan in The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, airing Mondays on NBC.
Liu reflects on Olympic gold
Liu secured gold in women’s figure skating on February 19 following her free skate performance, capping off a breakthrough moment that has kept her firmly in the spotlight.
Speaking on TODAY, the 20 year old said she is still processing the overwhelming response from fans.
“I think so. I’ve been getting so much more love too, it’s just continuing,” she said. “So I don’t know, it’s a lot. But I’m really grateful.”
When asked about her notably calm demeanour during competition, Liu said breathing techniques play a key role.
“I tell myself to breathe, because breathing is so important throughout the programme because we’re so stamina based,” she explained. “I’m feeling the energy of the audience, so I don’t need to tell myself much more.”
