ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Dar reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing a constructive role in advancing regional peace and stability.

During the conversation, Araghchi thanked Pakistan for its continued support for the peace process and expressed appreciation for Islamabad’s efforts in facilitating the safe and smooth repatriation of Iranian crew members and fishermen to their homeland. The two foreign ministers also agreed to remain in close contact on matters of mutual interest and regional developments.

Araghchi also held separate telephone conversations on Friday with the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan, South Korea, Romania and Britain to discuss the implementation of the recently signed peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi briefed his counterparts on the implementation of the MoU, ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington towards a final agreement, and related diplomatic consultations, stressing the importance of sustained engagement.

During his call with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, the two ministers discussed regional developments and the US-Iran negotiations, reaffirming their commitment to regional stability, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported.

Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Toiu welcomed efforts to de-escalate tensions in West Asia and underscored the importance of all parties honouring their commitments under the peace process, according to the Iranian ministry.

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun expressed support for diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace and stability, with particular emphasis on maritime security.

The Iran-US peace MoU, signed on June 18, ended months of conflict across multiple fronts, including Lebanon. The two countries are now negotiating a final agreement focused primarily on Iran’s nuclear programme and sanctions relief.
