WEB DESK: Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday departed for Cairo, Egypt, to attend the fourth meeting of the R-4 foreign ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirmed.

The high-level meeting brings together the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt to deliberate on a wide range of bilateral and regional issues. Diplomatic sources indicated that the visit underscores Pakistan’s commitment to fostering deeper engagement with key partners in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region.

Regional stability on the cards

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the quadrilateral meeting is expected to focus heavily on the rapidly evolving regional security paradigm and political cooperation.

The leaders will exchange views on prevailing geopolitical challenges, emphasizing the need for coordinated strategies to promote peace, stability, and economic interconnectivity across the region.

The platform, known as the R-4, has increasingly become a vital forum for these four nations to align their foreign policy objectives and address shared security concerns.

Strengthening strategic coordination

Beyond regional geopolitics, the Cairo summit will provide an opportunity for Senator Dar to hold sideline consultations with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt.

These interactions are aimed at reviewing bilateral ties, enhancing trade and investment, and strengthening multilateral coordination at global forums, including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The deputy prime minister’s visit comes at a critical juncture as Pakistan continues to recalibrate its diplomatic outreach, balancing traditional alliances while exploring new avenues of economic and strategic partnership in the region.
