ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is intensifying its diplomatic relations with both Türkiye and Egypt, with a particular focus on expanding cooperation across various sectors.

The developments came as the foreign ministers of the two countries met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad, reaffirming mutual commitments to enhance collaboration.

These meetings occurred on the sidelines of a two-day quadrilateral summit, bringing together the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt. The summit aims to address regional issues, with a strong emphasis on promoting de-escalation, particularly in the wake of the US-Iran conflict. While the US and Iran are not participating in the talks, the meeting is seen as a preparatory step for broader diplomatic initiatives in the future.

PAKISTAN-TÜRKIYE COOPERATION

In his meeting with Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar shed light on Pakistan’s longstanding relationship with Türkiye, highlighting shared history, culture, and mutual respect. The discussions also focused on enhancing bilateral ties in key areas such as trade, security, and defense cooperation.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of their bilateral relations and explored new avenues for strengthening the strategic partnership. They also touched on regional developments, particularly the situation in Iran, reiterating the importance of sustained diplomatic dialogue to maintain peace and stability.

“Pakistan and Türkiye have always stood by each other, and our commitment to deepening this strategic partnership remains unwavering,” Dar said, noting that both nations would continue to coordinate closely on global and regional issues, including developments in the Middle East.

PAKISTAN-EGYPT RELATIONS

Earlier in the day, Dar also met Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty, where they reaffirmed their shared commitment to bolstering cooperation across multiple sectors. Abdelatty’s visit follows high-level talks between the two countries, including discussions held in Riyadh earlier this month and a visit to Pakistan by the Egyptian FM in November 2025.

The two sides reviewed the full spectrum of their bilateral relationship, focusing on strengthening defense and security collaboration. They agreed to enhance cooperation through training exchanges and other institutional mechanisms, further cementing their partnership in these areas.

Trade and investment were also central topics of discussion, with both leaders agreeing to activate bilateral mechanisms, such as a Joint Ministerial Commission, to foster greater business-to-business linkages. Dar particularly acknowledged Egypt’s ongoing support in the health sector, especially in combating Hepatitis-C, and expressed his appreciation for the collaboration.

The leaders also addressed the ongoing crisis in Gaza, with Pakistan reaffirming its unwavering support for the Palestinian people. Both sides called for de-escalation, urging that disputes be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. The meeting also highlighted Egypt’s vital role in facilitating humanitarian aid to Gaza, an effort supported by Pakistan’s own relief initiatives.

The two countries also committed to continued coordination at international platforms such as the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

THE QUADRILATERAL SUMMIT

The quadrilateral meeting, set to be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dar, will provide a platform for in-depth discussions on regional tensions, especially those involving the US and Iran. The meeting aims to foster de-escalation and promote peace in the Middle East, which has been embroiled in conflict following US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

Despite initial plans for the summit to be held in Türkiye, it was relocated to Islamabad due to logistical reasons. The quadrilateral summit will include high-level discussions among the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt. It is expected to facilitate dialogue and contribute to efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing tensions in the region.

Pakistan has ramped up its diplomatic engagement, working closely with Washington, Gulf nations, and other key players to create space for potential talks. The diplomatic community is closely monitoring the situation, with some speculating that a ceasefire announcement could coincide with the start of formal talks, provided confidence-building measures are agreed upon by all parties involved.
