ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, discussing efforts to promote peace in the region.
According to a spokesperson, the UN chief appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating the Islamabad talks and praised Dar’s diplomatic efforts. He also reiterated the United Nations’ full support for Pakistan’s ongoing initiatives.
Dar, on the occasion, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing dialogue and diplomacy for regional peace and stability.
Likewise, Ishaq Dar also spoke with his counterpart Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan over the phone.
The two leaders discussed ongoing US-Iran negotiations and exchanged views on possible developments and next steps in the coming days.
In the next two days the US-Iran peace talks could be resumed once again in Islamabad, as the US President Donald Trump said in a statement. The Iran talks “could happen in next two days,” the president told in interview with the New York Post.
He indicated that Pakistan’s role and its military leadership have been instrumental in facilitating the potential talks.
The comments come as backchannel diplomacy continues over ending tensions in the region, with Pakistan emerging as a key host for possible negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Earlier reports have suggested that both sides are considering another round of high-level talks in Islamabad following previous discussions that ended without a final agreement.
While no official confirmation has been issued on timing, diplomatic sources indicate that preparations for renewed engagement are actively underway.
China too has expressed the same, supporting the US-talks to rekindle the peace candles in the Middle East.
President Xi Jinping has issued a definitive call for the global community to uphold the international rule of law as the primary mechanism for achieving lasting stability in the Middle East.
Speaking at a high-level diplomatic summit on Tuesday, the Chinese leader emphasised that a sustainable resolution to regional volatility can only be reached through the pillars of dialogue, justice, and multilateral cooperation, according to Reuters.
The statement comes at a critical juncture for the region, as Beijing increasingly positions itself as a central mediator in global conflict resolution.
President Xi underscored that the “law of the jungle” must not be allowed to prevail, urging world powers to abandon selective applications of international legal frameworks in favour of a more equitable and inclusive approach to diplomacy.
