Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again finally hits its stride in season 2, ditching its slow, courtroom-heavy approach for a darker, more action-packed story that puts Matt Murdock back at the centre.
The Disney+ series, which returned on March 24, corrects one of its biggest flaws from season one by bringing Daredevil into full focus much earlier, with Charlie Cox’s vigilante suiting up and stepping into combat from the start.
Set in a New York City under the control of Mayor Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, the story unfolds in a world where vigilantes are outlawed and hunted. Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force operates with near-total authority, tightening his grip on the city while framing masked heroes as the cause of its problems.
At the heart of the season is Murdock’s internal struggle between his moral code and his violent instincts, as he works with Karen Page, played by Deborah Ann Woll, to bring Fisk down.
The second instalment benefits from a more consistent creative vision following the behind-the-scenes overhaul that disrupted season one, resulting in a tighter, more focused narrative overall.
Bullseye, portrayed by Wilson Bethel, emerges as a standout, injecting chaos and tension into the story, while Karen takes on a more central role, deepening the emotional and ethical stakes.
Action is now a driving force, with frequent, brutal fight sequences and more inventive use of Daredevil’s signature billy club. While some moments feel repetitive, the pace is far more dynamic.
The return of Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter, adds energy in the later episodes, though her role remains somewhat limited.
Not everything works. The series still juggles too many characters, and some subplots feel underdeveloped, occasionally slowing the momentum.
However, the season builds to a high-impact finale that leans fully into spectacle, delivering the kind of payoff fans have long been waiting for.
With a third season already confirmed, Daredevil: Born Again now appears closer than ever to realising its full potential within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
