Why does David J Harris Jr want NYC to choose their mayor wisely?

WEB DESK: David J Harris Jr and his affiliation with the American right-wing has led to many instances of misinformation, but as New York City (NYC) mayor elections inch closer, the Conservative commentator took a snide approach by reminding NY to choose their mayor wisely by comparing how the leading contestant, Zohran Mamdani ate his burrito.

In a post on Facebook, Harris Jr said that the City should be careful with the polls because Mamdani ate rice with his hands while he devours burrito with a fork and a knife. Many people agreed with him while others wondered if this was another gimmick by Mamdani who is comfortably inching past Andrew Cuomo, and did quite well in the mayoral debate.

In January this year, Harris Jr also amplified a claim on Facebook, citing a Fox News report that falsely alleged the suspect of New Orleans attack entered through Eagle Pass, Texas, writing that there was “more blood on Biden and Kamala’s hands.” Other right-wing figures echoed similar rhetoric. However, Fox News later walked back its report as investigators continued to determine the attacker’s identity and motive.

After Zohran Mamdani’s surprise victory in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary in June, MAGA influencers unleashed a wave of racist and Islamophobic attacks. The 33-year-old democratic socialist, who could become the city’s first Muslim mayor, has been vilified for his progressive politics and South Asian-Ugandan roots. Donald Trump led the backlash, calling him a “100% Communist Lunatic” on social media, while Donald Trump Jr., Charlie Kirk, who was killed recently, and Laura Loomer spread false and inflammatory claims linking his faith to terrorism. Police are already investigating hate threats against Mamdani, whose win has become a lightning rod for far-right outrage.
