DC East, AC and SSP suspended over tragic manhole incident: Karachi Mayor

KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said Deputy Commissioner (DC) East, Assistant Commission (AC) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) were suspended on Wednesday over the tragic manhole incident that took place in Karachi earlier today.

Following the tragic death of little Ibrahim, who fell into a manhole in Shah Faisal Colony. The city’s sewage engineer and other senior officials have also been suspended.

Visiting the child’s family, Mayor Wahab expressed deep sorrow and apologised personally.

“I share in their grief, and as a father, I can imagine the pain they are going through,” he said.

He also praised the child’s grandfather for his calm and compassionate response.

The mayor stressed that the suspensions are meant to serve as a warning and ensure that city administration responds immediately in emergencies.

“Negligence will not be tolerated. Investigations are ongoing, and corrective measures are being implemented to prevent such incidents in the future,” he added.
