Dengue in Punjab: 218 news cases reported in last 24 hours

LAHORE: In the past 24 hours, Punjab, Pakistan, has reported 218 new cases of dengue, according to Secretary Health Ali Jan Khan.

The city of Lahore has seen the highest surge, with 122 fresh cases, followed by other urban areas such as Rawalpindi (25 cases), Multan (18 cases), and Gujranwala (26 cases), all experiencing a notable uptick in dengue infections.

Presently, Punjab is accommodating 171 dengue patients in various hospitals.

This news concerning the new dengue cases arrives amidst Pakistan’s ongoing struggle with a dengue outbreak. According to the National Institute of Health, the nation has recorded a total of 25,932 confirmed dengue cases and 62 fatalities from January 1 to September 27, 2023.

In response to this crisis, the Pakistani government has implemented several measures, including an extensive public awareness campaign and an increase in the availability of hospital beds for dengue patients. Nevertheless, the outbreak persists, and the government has issued a caution about the potential worsening of the situation in the upcoming weeks.
