Dense fog forces closure of M-3, M-4 and M-5 Motorways

ISLAMABAD: The motorway police have closed sections of M-3, M-4 and M-5 at multiple locations due to dense fog.

According to the Motorway Police Spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, M-3 has been closed from Darkhana to Rajana, M-4 from Gujrat to Multan, and M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir for all types of traffic.

The police warned that the sharp reduction in visibility can make journeys extremely dangerous and advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel.

The spokesperson cautioned that lane violations during fog can lead to serious accidents. Road users were urged to strictly follow lane discipline and refrain from overtaking under any circumstances.

Motorway Police noted that high speeds and maintaining insufficient distance from the vehicle ahead significantly increase the risk of accidents.

Spokesperson Ahmed advised commuters to travel, if possible, during daylight hours, as the period between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. is considered relatively safer during fog.

Drivers were also urged to use fog lights and ensure that vehicle headlights and fog lights are in proper working condition to improve visibility.

The Motorway Police instructed drivers to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, and contact the motorway police helpline at 130 in case of any emergency.

The spokesperson emphasized that the safety of citizens is the top priority for the Motorway Police and assured that the motorways will be reopened in phases as soon as weather conditions improve.
