DI Khan Attack: At least four police officers martyred, SHO included

DI KHAN: At least four policemen, including SHO Faheem Mumtaz, were martyred on Wednesday when armed militants attacked a police party during a search operation in Wana Budh, police said.

The operation was being conducted in the jurisdiction of Shaheed Nawab Police Station following intelligence reports about militant presence in the area. Militants suddenly opened fire, prompting officers to return fire.

The officers who lost their lives included SHO Faheem Mumtaz, Constable Irfan Khan, Constable Ghulam Subhani, and Constable Wajahat. Three others, including Paharpur Circle DSP Hafiz Adnan and ASI Tariq, were injured and shifted to the District Headquarters Teaching Hospital for treatment.

A heavy contingent of police, led by District Police Officer Sajad Ahmed Sahebzada, reached the scene and launched a search operation to apprehend the militants.

KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the attack, paid tribute to the martyred officers, and assured the government would provide all possible assistance to their families. He said police morale could not be dampened by such cowardly acts and emphasised the need for a comprehensive strategy to eradicate terrorism.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed sorrow over the attack, praised the bravery of D.I. Khan police, and directed that injured officers receive full medical care.

Former KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur also expressed grief, paying tribute to the officers’ sacrifice and praying for the swift recovery of the wounded.
