DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least three terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire after an attack on a police training centre in Dera Ismail Khan late on Friday.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Ahmed, between seven and eight terrorists armed with heavy weapons attacked the centre.
“One of the attackers detonated himself near the facility, while two others were killed in retaliatory fire from security forces,” he said.
The DPO said the assailants were equipped with Indian-made weapons.
Following the intense firing, additional police contingents had been dispatched from the Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines to bring the situation under control, sources said.
DPO Sajjad Ahmed himself is overseeing the ongoing operation.
Eyewitnesses said the militants fired from multiple directions, spreading panic in the vicinity. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a clearance operation against the attackers.
Earlier, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan and killed 13 terrorists belonging to the Fitna al-Khawarij, who were involved in targeted killings and suicide bombing.
