GILGIT: Diamer police on Saturday arrested a suspect accused of sexually harassing and physically assaulting an on-duty Lady Health Visitor (LHV) at the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Centre in Dadan Das, located in the Goharabad area of Diamer district.

In a statement, police said that a special team comprising sub-division police officer (SDPO) Goharabad Inamur Rehman, deputy superintendent of police Faqir Muhammad,  Goharabad Station House Officer (SHO) had  launched a search operation right after the complaint was registered.

However, the suspect had fled to a remote village in the mountainous nullah to evade arrest. Police teams conducted an on-foot search operation through difficult terrain and succeeded in apprehending the accused after a targeted raid.

District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Hameed personally oversaw the case and assured that the investigation is being carried out in a transparent and professional manner. He pledged that justice would be ensured for the victim and no leniency would be shown to the perpetrator.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident took place around 10:30 am on Thursday while the LHV was performing her official duties. The accused, identified as Raffique, son of Shahraees Khan, forcibly entered the MCH facility, grabbed the LHV’s hand, and attempted to violate her modesty by pulling at her clothing. When she resisted, he allegedly punched her in the face and eyes, causing serious injuries, and hurled verbal threats before fleeing the scene. The case was registered under sections 506, 186, 337A, 354, and 452 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
