Interbank closing: PKR loses 17.33 paisa against USD

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) experienced a depreciation of 17.33 paisa against the US dollar (USD) during Monday’s interbank session, closing at PKR 278.3 per USD. This marks a decline from the previous session’s closing rate of PKR 278.13 per USD.

During the session, the rupee reached an intraday high (bid) of PKR 278.55 and a low (ask) of PKR 278.15. In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 278.50 for buying and PKR 280.50 for selling.

Pakistani rupee’s performance against other currencies (Exchange rates)

In comparison to other currencies, the British pound (GBP) became cheaper by 4.03 paisa, closing at PKR 359.65 compared to the previous day’s rate of PKR 359.69. Conversely, the Swiss franc (CHF) saw a gain of 37.15 paisa, closing at PKR 313.44 from PKR 313.06 in the last session.

The rupee lost 18.87 paisa against the euro (EUR), closing at PKR 303.01 from the previous value of PKR 302.82. The UAE dirham (AED) appreciated by 4.71 paisa, ending the session at PKR 75.72, up from PKR 75.77 a day ago. Similarly, the Saudi riyal (SAR) gained 4.42 paisa, closing at PKR 74.20 from PKR 74.15.

The Chinese yuan (CNY) depreciated slightly, losing 0.99 paisa to close at PKR 38.26 compared to PKR 38.27 in the previous session. Against the Japanese yen (JPY), the rupee saw a marginal loss of 0.83 paisa, closing at PKR 1.7756 versus PKR 1.7673 a day ago.

During the current financial year, the PKR has appreciated against the USD by 4.12 paisa or 0.01 per cent. Over the current calendar year, the PKR has strengthened by 3.56 rupees or 1.28 per cent.
