DASKA: A wedding procession in Daska city of district Sialkot became the talk of the town on Sunday after videos of guests showering dollars, euros, pounds and large sums of Pakistani currency went viral across social media platforms.

According to local residents, the baraat [wedding procession] of Shahid Bhatti, brother of Advocate Zubair Bhatti, travelled from Baig Chak to a private marriage hall in Daska in a long convoy of hundreds of vehicles.

People along the route were stunned as bundles of foreign currency and Pakistani notes were tossed in the air throughout the journey. Children accompanying the procession rushed to collect the falling notes, adding to the festive chaos.

Witnesses said that as soon as the baraat arrived at the marriage hall, bags filled with cash reportedly worth lakhs of rupees were opened, continuing the dramatic display of wealth. Foreign currency, including dollars, euros and pounds, rained down inside the venue, prompting excited shouts from children and amazement from onlookers.

In another moment captured on video, the groom’s brother appeared wearing heavy gold ornaments, while friends presented him with a cheque of Rs 500,000 as a salute, further elevating the extravagant atmosphere.

Clips from the wedding have now spread widely on social media, where users continue to debate the spectacle, with some praising the celebration’s grandeur, and others questioning such open displays of wealth. Regardless, the “currency rain” of Sialkot has become one of the most discussed events of the week.
